What Are You Staring At?

Lyra was getting annoyed. The Clavat girl had finally found some time to sit down and read her new book on Crystal Magicite theory but before she'd even gotten past chapter two, she noticed Leonard acting..... weird. She furrrowed her brows in frustration; first he had sat next to her and  then he kept glancing over her shoulder while she tried to read, but as soon as she looked up at him, he turned away as if he hadn't been looking at all. How was she supposed to learn anything with him breathing down her neck the whole time? After what must have been the upteenth time, Lyra snapped. 
"What? What are you staring at?" She grumbled impatiently, "Can't you see I'm trying to read?"
"S-sorry," Leo flushed pink and stammered a quick apology, "I.... uh....."
"You what? Spit it out already," Lyra demanded irritably.
Leonard cursed inwardly, he couldn't tell Lyra he'd been staring at her, not the book. "I.... I.... was wondering what you were reading?" 
"It says on the cover, stupid" She repiled blandly and held up the book for him to see. 
Leo examined the cover, "A book about Crystal Magicite?"
Lyra nodded. "It's book about the theory behind the cystalization of magicite and their magical properties," She explained.
"Really?" Leo shrugged, feigning interest, "How exciting."
"It is," Lyra said with a smile. "Well if you're that interested I don't mind sharing the book. Just don't read over my shoulder." She held up the book where they could both see it's pages, all of which were full of intricate dagrams and illustrations.
Leonard took one look at the complex equations adorning the pages and felt his head start to spin. He was way out of his depth, "Uh, t-that's okay, I
mean - if you'd rather read alone..." 
"I already said I didn't mind" Lyra repllied, opening the book back to chapter one again.
Leo gulped, "A-Allright then..." Just his luck, finally alone with Lyra and now he was being lectured in the mathmatical equations behind crystal magicite formation. "Uh, Lyra?" Leonard asked as she turned the page and continued her explaination.
Lyra paused, "Yeah?"
"Exactly how long is this book?" Leo continued, dreading the answer.
"About another thirty chapters or so, it's a real page turner!"Lyra said excitedly, face smiling and brimming with joy.
Leonard smiled back, "I guess it's worth it," he thought, just glad to see her so happy.

So wow, hey - a segment of story where Lyra isn't beating the living crap out of Leo. That's a first. (Or is it? *wiggles eyebrows*) 

On a side note: it's been a while since I used watercolor paint, I really missed it 8'D

For those of you out of the loop, these two characters are from a FFCC fanfiction *killerKitty4 and I have been writing together. While the characters start out looking like their in-game counterparts, they do change appearance when they get older. You can see the older versions of these characters here:


Done on Strathmore Watercolor Paper with Pencil, Ink, Watercolor Paint, and colored pencils.
